This piece by Madison Skriver vacillates somewhere between object and painting, reality and illusion. TV had similar qualities when it began entering American homes in the 1950s — it brought the masses the magic of futurism with literal illusions displayed on-screen, a light up box of projected images.
"Since I’m so immersed in mid century American culture," Madison reflects, "I find myself interested in how TV has become interwoven into our daily lives throughout the past 70 years; we’ve built routines around it, normalized its ongoing stream of background noise, and created comforting rituals with it...like watching the evening news."
