Princess Di made the Gyles & George "I'M A LUXURY" sweater famous in a 1980's photo with her sons, Prince William and Prince Harry. The back of the sweater reads, "FEW CAN AFFORD."
"When I created this piece, the Russians were early into their invasion of Ukraine, and the economic sanctions included going after Russian oligarchs' assets,” explains Bryce. “I found a still from the 2018 movie, "Generation Wealth" of one of the oligarch’s wives wearing this sweater, with their daughter on a toy horse next to her. I immediately wanted to paint it. ‘FEW CAN AFFORD’ seemed like a perfect name for the piece.
"The silver and gold are meant to expound upon the absurd wealth the oligarchs possess, and I dripped the black down onto the little girl, as a ‘sins of the father’ analogy. This piece seems so ridiculously appropriate for the way that the Russian billionaires live compared to normal Russian or Ukrainian people. Or any people, for that matter."
